Koochiching State Forest is one of the largest State Forests in Minnesota, at over 500,000 acres in size. It is a forest of cedars, aspens, spruces, tamaracks, and pines that give wildlife habitat to wolves, moose, coyotes, foxes, bald eagles, white-tailed deer, great horned owls, red-tailed hawks, and numerous others. For the recreational enthusiast there are miles of multipurpose trails for all seasons, numerous water trails for canoeing and kayaking including the Little and Big Fork River State Water Trails, and much more.
