Welcome to Minneopa State Park located in Mankato, Minnesota.
Park History: The word Minneopa comes from the Dakota language and translates to "water falling twice." This name was given in reference to the park's magnificent waterfalls on Minneopa Creek. Minneopa State Park, established in 1905, is one of the oldest State Parks in Minnesota. In the early days many people visited by railroad and steamboat. The Park is home to an old windmill built by German immigrant Albert Seppmann in 1864. On a windy day, the mill was able to produce 150 bushels of wheat into flour. The landscape that is Minneopa State Park was carved out by Glacial River Warren which helped to drain Glacial Lake Agassiz 15,000 years ago. The melting ice left many large boulders in the region.
