Welcome to Soudan Underground Mine State Park located over 2,000 feet below the surface of northern Minnesota near Soudan.
Park History: The bedrock formations inside this unique park date back over 2.7 billion years. The bedrock formations consist of an iron-bearing metamorphic formation and metamorphosed sedimentary rock made up of nickle, gold, silver, lead, copper, and zinc. Above the surface there is evidence of human settlement dating back over 6,000 years ago. The area is rich in natural resource extraction from logging to mining.
Wildlife: On the surface this park helps protect habitat for many wild critters including black bears, timber wolves, deer, hawks, owls, and many others. Please treat their home with respect.
For the lover of the outdoors this park boasts over 5 miles of hiking trails, and a picnic area. Come on out and have a blast, and take a journey down inside your planet!
