Welcome to John A. Latsch State Park located on the banks of the Mississippi River near Winona.
Park History: For many years Steamboat captains used the river's towering bluffs known as the Hope, Faith, and Charity Bluffs to navigate their way safely up and down the Mississippi. In the mid 19th century, a logging town known as Winona was established just below these bluffs. For a very long time, very few visitors made their way up to Winona and those that did enjoyed hiking the steep hills and catching the magnificent views of the valley. A successful local businessman and landowner, John A. Latsch, held a deep passion for the land and worked with an adjacent landowner to donate 350 acres for a State Park in 1925. Years later, he donated land that he owned in Wisconsin to become Perrot State Park.
Wildlife: The park's floodplains, prairies, bluffs, and forests help protect wildlife habitat for coyotes, foxes, opossums, deer, timber rattlesnakes, and many other critters. Please treat their home with respect.
For the lover of the outdoors this park boasts fabulous fishing opportunities and marvelous views of the nation's longest river. Come on out and explore!
