Welcome to the oldest National Forest in the State of Mississippi, the Homochitto National Forest, located in the hills of southwest Mississippi.
Forest History: Homochitto National Forest was established in 1936 and was named for the Homochito River. Homochitto is a Native American term meaning "Big Red" (Not to be confused with the chewing gum or soda brands).
For the lover of the outdoors the Homochitto National Forest boasts miles of hiking trails, a nationally recognized mountain biking trail, and so much more. This is considered Mississippi's best kept secret. Come on out and have a blast!
