Bear Paw Battlefield National Historic Park
Bear Paw Battlefield National Historic Park commemorates the Bear Paw Battle of 1877. This Montana park was the location of the final battle of the Nez Perce Flight, where the Nimiipuu Native Americans stopped to rest on their journey to Canada. The tribe was intercepted by the American Army, where a tragic battle lasted a few days. The battle ended with the Nimiipuu Native Americans laying down arms.
Today the park has a 1.25-mile trail with plenty of historical markers that give information about the lives lost during the conflict. There’s even an auto tour that you can take around the grounds! You can download the details on the park’s website or email them for a copy.
Reflect some of Montana’s history at this National Park with rolling hills and tall grasses. Whether on foot or by car, the trail has a lot to offer. Open sunrise to sunset.
