Benton Lake National Wildlife Refuge lies on the northern Great Plains about 50 miles east of the Rocky Mountains near Great Falls, Montana. Like many other refuges across the United States, it was established in order to protect bird habitat. It was first established in 1929 by the executive order of President Herbert Hoover. It is a great place for bird-watching.
