Lewis and Clark National Forest
Welcome to the Lewis and Clark National Forest located in the spectacular Rocky Mountains of Montana. The forest's landscapes range in elevation from as low as 4,500 feet ASL to as high as 9,362 feet ASL at the summit of Rocky Mountain Peak.
Forest History: The Lewis and Clark National Forest has been harvested for it's timber for many years before it first became a Forest Reserve in 1897.
Flora and Fauna: Lewis and Clark National Forest helps protect the home of numerous plant and animals species. Some of the plants that grow inside the boundaries include Douglas firs and lodgepole pines. Some of the wild animals who call this place home include lynx, grizzly bears, deer, elk, mountain goats, mountain lions, black bears, wolves, peregrine falcons, and bald eagles. Please treat their home with respect.
For the lover of the outdoors this forest boasts 29 developed recreation areas, the Showdown Ski Resort, numerous trails, and so much more. As the founder of RecPlanet I want to tell you about my personal experience here in 1995. We stayed at the K-Bar L Dude Ranch and took some awesome horseback rides everyday out into the untouched Bob Marshall Wilderness Area. It was a real golden opportunity to connect with nature. The trip also saw some of the best fishing of my entire life. Come on out and explore.
