Cape Hatteras National Seashore
Welcome to Cape Hatteras National Seashore located near Manteo, North Carolina. This was the first National Seashore established in the State of North Carolina.
Park History: The land that is now Cape Hatteras National Seashore is rich in history. It's islands have been home to Native Americans, slaves, farmers, lighthouse keepers, and many others. It's inhabitants have been eye witnesses to hurricanes, Civil War battles, hundreds of shipwrecks, Blackbeard's death, test bombings, early radio broadcasts, and so much more.
Wildlife: The untouched barrier islands and dunes of Cape Hatteras National Seashore help protect the home of numerous plant and animal species. Some of the plants that grow inside the park boundaries include sawgrass, asters, black cherries, oaks, and pines. Some of the wild animals who call this place home include loggerhead sea turtles, white-tailed deer, rat snakes, dolphins, and whales. Please treat their home with respect.
For the lover of the outdoors Cape Hatteras National Seashore boasts miles of undeveloped coastline, windsurfing opportunities, hundreds of campsites, and so much more. Come on out and have an adventure.
