Welcome to North Carolina's William B. Umstead State Park located in the capital city of Raleigh. This park started off as a park for African-Americans only as Reedy Creek State Park but once it was desegregated it was renamed for former Governor William B. Umstead who did a lot for conservation while he was in office. This park has three man made lakes all of which are open to fishing and non-motorized watercraft.
Camping and Lodging: The campground at William B. Umstead State Park has 28 campsites with 20 foot driveways, a 6 person capacity, and no electricity but with toilet and showers nearby. There are also several cabins including the 25 person capacity Maple Hill Lodge, the Camp Lapihio Cabin with a 120 person capacity, the Camp Crabtree Cabin with a 64 person capacity, and 7 more cabins each with a 27 person capacity. Come out and stay a few nights.
Trails: Umstead State Park is a large park with 15 different trails. The Camground Spur Trail is a 0.4 mile easy hiking trail. The Company Mill Trail is a 5.8 mile loop hiking trail of moderate difficulty. The Company Mill Spur Trail is a 0.2 mile loop easy hiking trail. The Inspiration Trail is a 0.4 mile easy hiking loop trail. This is just to name a few.
