Hunterdon County New Jersey Parks
Welcome to the historic and beautiful Union Furnace Preserve located in Clinton, New Jersey. This park got it's name due to the fact that it was site of an 18th century ironworks that operated from 1742-1781. For years the place made horseshoes, fireplace parts, and other necessities and actually made canonballs and other weapons for the Revolutionary War. It eventually earned the name Taylor & Wharton Iron and Steel Company and is the siteof the oldest known ironworks in the United States. In 1980 it became a county park and much of the land that was deforested over the years has since been reforested.
Recreational activities: Spruce Run runs through the park and is stocked with trout each year. Come out and bring a line and pole. While hiking on it's trails one may see deer, skunks, raccoons, Baltimore Orioles or seagulls. Come out and explore.
