Welcome to Elena Gallegos Open Space Park located in the Sandia Mountains outside of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Sandia is the Spanish word for Watermelon and they say that the sunsets up here are Watermelon colored. The park sites about 6,500 feet above sea level and offers great views of the Sandia Mountains as well as Mount Taylor to the west. The park's picnic area has grills. Come up here to explore miles of multipurpose trails and for some magnificent sunsets.
When visiting any Park in the City of Albuquerque please respect the rules.
*The following activities are prohibited; climbing trees is prohibited, defacing public property, possession of glass objects, littering, removing or harming plants and animals.
*With the exception of containers for medicine, all glass objects are prohibited.
*Except with the Mayor's Permission, all advertising and vending is prohibited.
*All bicycles and motor vehicles must stay in designated areas and respect all State of New Mexico Traffic laws.
*All parks are open from 6:00 am until midnight.
*All animals must be leashed and waste removed.
