El Malpais National Monument
Welcome to Malpais National Monument located near Grants, New Mexico.
Park History: This park's landscape was formed by volcanic activity over one million years ago. It also boasts prehistoric ruins and homesteads of the lands early human inhabitants. El Malpais National Monument helps protect the home of numerous plant and animals species. Some of the plants that grow inside the park boundaries include junipers and douglas firs. Some of the wild animals who call this place home include lizards, black bears, coyotes, mountain lions, and rattlesnakes. Please treat their home with respect.
