Fort Union National Monument
Fort Union National Monument is a historic park located near Wastrous, New Mexico. The fort itself was first established in the mid 19th century right after the U.S.-Mexican War in order to protect the local residents. In 1861 when the Civil War started the Fort was rebuilt but the war never made it as far west as New Mexico.
