New York State Forests
Welcome to New York's Maple Hill State Forest located in Chemung County near the town of Chemung which was first established in 1798. Maple Hill State Forest boasts a history that is different from many other New York State Forests, although it was once used for agricultural purposes, abandonment of those farms occured earlier than for many others. Most of the abandonment occured in the two decade period from 1910-1929. Maple Hill State Forest's history is also unique in that the purchase did not occur during the Depression era but during the 1960's, well after the Civilian Conservation Corp was disbanded. Recreational opportunities in Maple Hill State Forest are relatively limited but people do come here for hunting and even geocaching purposes. Come out and explore!
New York State Law requires that when visiting any State Forest you must;
