New York State Forests
Welcome to New York's New Michigan State Forest located in Chenango County. This Forest boasts a rich history dating as far back as the Revolutionary War. Today one can see a cemetery where some of the soldiers were buried as well as the remains of old farm homesteads. In more recent history the Civilian Conservation Corps under the Roosevelt Administration helped to build the forest's multipurpose trails for all seasons. Sections of the New York State Snowmobile Corridor trail and the Finger Lakes Trail system run through New Michigan State Forest. In May 1998 a tornado hit the region and decimated nearly 900 acres of woodlands, but since that time over 30,000 trees have been planted. Come out and explore New Michigan State Forest!
New York State Law requires that when visiting any State Forest you must;

*All human excrement must be buried in holes no less than 6 inches deep.
*All motor vehicles must stay in designated areas.
