Welcome to Firestone Metro Park in Akron Ohio along the banks of the Tuscarawas River.
Park History: The land that is now Firestone Metro Park was once a part of a big dairy farming community. In 1949 the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company generously donated 89 acres to the Metro Parks district. Additional purchases have increased the park's size to 258 acres. In 1956 the Ohio DNR built a dam nearby in order to create a reservoir for industrial water needs. The creation of the dam helped to form the wetlands of the present day park.
Wildlife: Firestone Metro Park helps protect the home of numerous wild animals including foxes, skunks, raccoons, coyotes, rabbits, moles, mice, woodpeckers, herons, ducks, and bald eagles. Please treat their home with respect.
For the lover of the outdoors Firestone Metro Park boasts two picnic pavilions, multipurpose trails, and much more. To reserve the Tuscarawas Shelter please call 330-867-5511. The picnic shelter has grills. Come on out and explore!
