Cedar Point National Wildlife Refuge

Activities:
Fishing

Welcome to Cedar Point National Wildlife Refuge located on the shores of Lake Erie in northern Ohio.

Refuge History: Cedar Point, got it's name due to the large number of cedar trees growing along the shoreline. For many centuries, Native American tribes hunted and trapped the muskrats, deer, and ducks. Eventually, French Trappers arrived in the region. In 1813, a group of people escaping Michigan's River Raisin Massacre traveled across frozen Lake Erie and found shelter at Cedar Point. A fur and whiskey trader by the name of "Ol Joe Chevalier, built himself a cabin at Cedar Point. In 1882, the Cedar Point Shooting Club purchased the land, built a large clubhouse, and used the land for waterfowl hunting. In the 1950's President Eisenhower came to the club to hunt. In 1964 the land was donated to the government and Cedar Point National Wildlife Refuge was established.

Wildlife: The marshes that make up Cedar Point National Wildlife Refuge help protect the home of numerous wild critters including ducks and bald eagles. Please treat their home with respect.

For the lover of the outdoors this refuge boasts seasonal fishing opportunities. Come on out and have a blast!
