Welcome to Gorge Metro Park located in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
Park History: The landscapes in and around Gorge Metro Park were carved out by glacial retreat at the end of the last ice age over 10,000 years ago. Glacial deposits blocked the Cuyahoga River rerouting it to carve out the gorge through the bedrock's Sharon conglomerate sandstone. In 1759, a young white girl named Mary Campbell was captured by the Delaware Tribe in Pennsylvania and brought to a cave in what is now Gorge Metro Park and adopted by Chief Netawatwees. Campbell ended up settling in the tribal village along the banks of the Cuyahoga River. She was released at the end of the French and Indian War in 1764. In 1882 the land was made into the High Bridge Glens Amusement Park that featured a dance hall and a roller coaster. Finally in 1930, the Northern Ohio Traction & Light Company generously donated 144 acres of land to the Summit Metro Parks district.
