Welcome to Ohio's oldest State Park, the beautiful Buckeye Lake State Park located just east of Columbus off of Interstate 70. Buckeye Lake itself is over 3,000 acres and is open to all types of watercraft whether it be sailboats, gasoline powered boats, or paddle boats. Watercraft can be launched into Buckeye Lake in 9 different places and there are 3 public swimming beaches open from Memorial Day until Labor Day. The angler can come with hopes of catching bass, perch, catfish, and others. The park's picnic shelters can be reserved by calling 866-644-6727.

Park History: The geological history of Buckeye Lake State Park and the surrounding regions dates back over 10,000 years ago at the end of the last ice age. The glacial retreat helped carve out many hills known as moraines and formed many lakes known as kettles. These lakes eventually turned into wetlands by the time the first Europeans arrived in the region.

In the early 19th century canals were taht eventually connected up to the Erie Canal in New Jersey were dug in the region. In time, the railroads made these canals obsolete. In the late 19th century the Ohio State legislature designated some of the formal canal lands for public recreation, and Buckeye Lake State Park was established.
