Welcome to Furnace Run Metro Park.
Park History: Furnace Run Metro Park traces it's roots all the way back to 1929 when the family of Charles Brush Jr. donated 272 acres of land to Metro Parks. During the depression era of the 1930s many work relief crews helped to build the park amenities. The park's Brushwood Lake was formed by diverting the flow of Furnace Run and was a popular swimming hole until it closed in 1956. In 1958, the first director of Metro Parks, H.S. Wagner, retired and donated his property to become part of Furnace Run Metro Park.
Flora and Fauna: Furnace Run Metro Park helps protect the home of numerous plant and animals species. Some of the plants that grow inside the park boundaries include daffodils, maples, willows, black walnuts, and Virginia bluebells. Some of the wild animals who call this place home include raccoons, beavers, hawks, owls, and herons. Please treat their home with respect.
For the lover of the outdoors this magnificent park boasts nearly three miles of multipurpose trails, several picnic tables, and much more. Come on out and have a blast!
