Caledonia State Park
Pennsylvania, USA
Want to do some pretty fair trout fishing in a State Park ? Then come on out to Caledonia State Park, located midway between Chambersburg and Gettysburg on US 30. This State Park offers many great places for anglers. Brown trout, rainbow trout, native brook trout and some warm-water game fish can be found here. The East Branch Conococheague and Rocky Mountain creeks and Carbaugh Run flow through the park. All state fishing rules and regulations apply to anglers here. Camping is open here from April through December.
Hiking and Golf account for a lot of the activity offered at the Park. There are up to 10 miles of State Park hiking trails which transverse the area. The Appalachian National Scenic Trail passes right through the park. This trail runs continuously from Georgia to Maine. Other hiking is available at the State Forest next door. Hikers may access the adjoining Michaux State Forest by using the parking lots at Caledonia State Park and hiking in on the trails. There is also an 18 hole golf course built in the the 1920’s within the park confines.
There is a very good, nationally known summer stock playhouse at Caledonia State Park. Each summer the Totem Pole Playhouse attracts high quality actors and puts on a wide variety theatrical releases, some contemporary, some classics.
This wide range of sophisticated activities is all available at one place, under cool pine trees next to classic trout streams, surely worth visiting if you’re in the area for the evening or a week long stay.
