Valley Forge National Historic Park
Welcome to Valley Forge National Historic Park.
Park History: This land boasts a little revolutionary war history. It is the site where General George Washington's Continental Army camped for the winter of 1777-1778. Historical accounts indicate that most of the men spent the harsh winter in log cabins that they constructed. This land was actually once a state park, the first state park established in the State of Pennsylvania in 1893. It was in 1976, the year of the U.S. Bicentennial that the park's ownership was transferred to Uncle Sam.
Wildlife: The land that is Valley Forge National Park is a diverse natural setting of wetlands, deciduous forest, and meadows that is surrounded by residential, industrial, and commercial development. Thus, it provides a protected oasis for many wild animals including crayfish, red foxes, chipmunks, grey squirrels, and white tailed deer. It also boasts over 700 plant species. Please treat their home with respect.
