Black Moshannon State Park
Welcome to Pennsylvania's Black Moshannon State Park.
Park History: Long before the first Europeans arrived on the continent the Seneca Native Americans used the land that is now Black Moshannon State Park for hunting and fishing grounds. In the early 19th century the construction of the Philadelphia-Erie Pike and a hotel known as the Antes brought new settlers and villages to the region. The 19th century saw a huge timber boom in the region and today the visitor can still see the stumps of the trees harvested by the Beaver Mill Lumber Company over 100 years ago.
The timber boom eventually died down as trees became scarce and the forest fell victim to fires and erosion. In the 1930's President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's administration created the Civilian Conservation Corps in order to help give Americans jobs and the CCC did a lot of work in helping to restore this land.
Wildlife: Black Moshannon State Park helps protect the home of numerous wild animals including hawks, wild turkeys, black bears, flying squirrels, northern watersnakes, muskrats, deer, and many others. Please treat their home with respect.
For the lover of the outdoors Black Moshannon State Park boasts a 250 acre fishing lake, over 16 miles of trails, 74 campsites, a swimming beach, and much more. Come on out and explore.
