Savannah National Wildlife Refuge
Welcome to the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge, an oasis of freshwater marsh and bottomland hardwoods, located on the banks of the Savannah River in both South Carolina and Georgia.
Refuge History: Much of the land that is now Savannah National Wildlife Refuge was used for rice cultivation back in the 18th century. The Refuge was established on April 6, 1927.
Wildlife: Savannah National Wildlife Refuge helps protect the home of numerous wild critters including ducks, geese, wading birds, shorebirds, bald eagles, wood storks, manatees, shortnose sturgeon, wood ducks, great horned owls, ospreys, and swallow-tailed kites. Please treat their home with respect.
