Welcome to South Carolina's Sumter National Forest located in it's mountain and Piedmont regions. This forest was first established in 1936 and like Fort Sumter was named for the Revolutionary War Hero Thomas Sumter. As the founder of RecPlanet I can tell you about two camping trips I have taken along the Chattooga River in the Sumter National Forest in the fall of 1990 and the fall of 1993. It is a very beautiful and peaceful experience with great stars.
This Forest Grew by 325 acres in October of 2020.
