Welcome to the first State Park east of the Mississippi River to open it's gates to African Americans, Tennessee's T.O Fuller State Park, located just south of Memphis.
Park History: This park is named after T.O Fuller, an African American who did a lot to help his community by helping them to get educational and economic opportunities. During the Great Depression Era of the 1930's the Civilian Conservation Corps helped build T.O Fuller State Park's amenities and in doing so discovered many artifacts of the Chichasaw tribe. This land was purchased by the State of Tennessee in 1937 from a man named Dover Barrett.
Flora and Fauna: The park's wetlands, forests, and ridges help remain relatively untouched and provide wildlife habitat for numerous plants and animals including white-tailed deer, raccoons, and red tailed hawks. bobcats, beavers, snapping turtles, cottonwoods, oaks, and beeches. Please treat their home with respect.
For the recreational enthusiast T.O Fuller State Park boasts an olympic sized swimming pool, over six miles of trails, 45 developed campsites, and more. Come out and explore.
