Welcome to one of the few innercity nature preserves in the City of Austin, the Blunn Creek Nature Preserve. This beautiful and unique preserve boasts majestic cliffs, beautiful views of the Texas State Capitol Dome, and fossils. It helps protect the home of numerous plant and animal species so please treat their home with respect.

Preserve History: The land that is now Blunn Creek Nature Preserve was covered by volcanic ash from an eruption over 80 million years ago at a time when many active volcanoes dotted the landscape and when a shallow sea covered much of the land. From the fossils discovered at Blunn Creek Nature Preserve it is believed by scientists that this land was once 200 feet beneath the surface. In more recent years Blunn Creek Nature Preserve was used as a dairy farm. It was purchased by the City of Austin in 1982.
