Welcome to the Hamilton Pool Nature Preserve! This place is a historic swimming hole that became a county nature preserve in 1990. Hamilton Creek carves out a small canyon in the park just before it flows into the Pedernales River. The canyon consists of limestone outcroppings and a 50 foot waterfall that never completely dries up.
The Hamilton Pool Nature Preserve protects various endangered species of plants and animals including the Golden-Cheeked Warbler, the canyon-mock orange, and the chatter box orchid. This preserve is a section of the much larger 30,000 acre+ Balcones Canyonlands Preserve which is owned in partnership with the Nature Conservancy, Travis County, the City of Austin, and the Audubon Society. Come on out and have a blast!
Depending on the water conditions sometimes swimming is allowed and sometimes it is not. For more information please call 512-264-2740. This is also the number to call with any other questions or to make reservations.
This was RecPlanet place of the day on May 23, 2015.
