Otter Creek State Park
Welcome to Otter Creek State Park, a popular and peaceful birdwatching destination located along the Pacific Flyway near Antimony, Utah. Aside from the magnificent birdwatching this park also boasts three ATV trails, the Otter Creek Reservoir, and so much more. Come on out and have a blast!
Park History: The Otter Creek Reservoir was built in 1897 and is one of the oldest dam projects in the State of Utah. Many of the Mormon settlers had set up farms in the region and were in need of an irrigation system to bring water to their crops. Many of the farmers had experience in canal construction but didn't know a thing about dam construction. They formed the Otter Creek Reservoir Company and applied for water rights but were denied financial assistance. Despite the lack of financial aid they still decided to start building the dam. The project was supervised by Robert Dixon Young, who had no experience building dams. Local volunteers assisted with homemade construction materials. A year later in 1898, financial aid was finally approved and the proper tools were purchased. Once the 40 foot tall dam was complete many state engineers described it as "one of the best and more secure earth reservoir dams in the country."
