Fishlake National Forest
Welcome to Utah's Fishlake National Forest named for the largest mountain lake in the state. The Fishlake National Forest is nestled in central Utah on the boundary of the Basin and Range and the Colorado Plateau. The geology of the Colorado Plateau consists of mostly sandstone, shales, and salts. About 30 million years ago geological forces helped lift the Colorado Plateau about a mile to it's present day elevation. The Colorado River and it's tributaries help drain most of the Colorado Plateau and carve out many majestic Canyons. The Basin and Range consists of mostly clean sands, dolomites, and limestones that are the deposits left by an ancient sea millions of years ago. Fishlake National Forest was established in 1907.
Wildlife: Fishlake National Forest helps protect the home of numerous wild critters including mountain lions, squirrels, rabbits, and deer. Please treat their home with respect.
For the lover of the outdoors Fishlake National Forest boasts over 20 multipurpose trails, many mountains to climb, and so much more. Come on out and have a blast!
