African American Heritage Memorial Park
Welcome to the African American Heritage Memorial Park located in Alexandria, Virginia inside the Carlyle Development. This park is the home a 19th century African American cemetery. The park's most notable structure is the group of bronze trees known as "Truths that rise from the Roots Remembered" which acknowledges the contributions that African Americans made to the City of Alexandria. This park was generously presented to the City of Alexandria by the Norfolk Southern Corporation in June 1995.
When visiting any park in Alexandria, Virginia it's important to know the rules.
*All vehicles must stay in designated areas and obey all traffic laws. *The following are all prohibited; feeding wildlife, littering, alcoholic beverages, golfing.
*Golfing is now allowed in the parks.
*All children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. For their own safety they are discouraged from using the playgrounds at high temperatures or after heavy rains.
*When walking in the parks please stay on designated trails. This way you avoid snakes and poison ivy and help protect the other plants.
*Amplified sound requires special permit.
*All dogs must be leashed and waste removed. Dogs are not allowed on the athletic fields at any time.
*All parks open at dawn and close at dusk. Unless otherwise permitted.
*Shoes are required at all times.
