Welcome to Eastern Shore of Virginia National Wildlife Refuge located on Virginia's Atlantic Coast. One of the first Europeans to explore this land was English explorer John Smith. In more recent history this land was used by the military to store weapons during World War II. Today the refuge helps protect important habitat for migratory birds. With over 400 species of birds it is a great birding destination. Some of the terrestrial wildlife include white-tailed deer, foxes, rabbits, and raccoons.
