Welcome to one of the newer parks in the Virginia State Parks system, Wilderness Road State Park which was established in 1993.

Park History: The park got it's name because of it's location along the Wilderness Road that was carved out by Daniel Boone in 1775 and was used by over 300,000 people migrating westward over the next quarter century up to 1800. The land that makes up the park was originally a farm owned by a man named Robert M. Ely. Ely built a mansion in the 1870's and several generations of his descendants lived in the house. Karl and Ann Harris purchased the property in the 1940's and the mansion still stands today.

Today the park offers 10 miles of multi-purpose trails that connect up to the nearby Cumberland Gap National Historic Park, cabins for overnight stays, reservable picnic shelters and a sand volleyball court. Come on out and explore.
