Welcome to Virginia's Manassas National Battlefield Park.
Bring history to life by visiting the Manassas National Battlefield Park. The location of the first major land battle of the Civil War, this park is famously known for being the site of the First and Second Battle of Bull Run, also known as the Battle of Manassas.
This historical park is free to the public and preserves the significance it had during the Civil War. With 5,000 acres, wartime character is still evident in the landscape today. The cannons that litter the field reflect the Civil War cannon placements, creating an imitation of a real-life walkthrough when you walk the field.
A must-see for history buffs, Manassas was the battlefield that gave Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson his nickname. While at Battlefield Park, you can see the Brawner Farmstead, where General Jackson hid his troops during the Second Battle of Manassas.
There are plenty of historical Civil War remnants still left as well. The Stone Bridge that Union artillerists fired opening shots over is still on the property, though it’s now an ongoing restoration project. The Stone Bridge was destroyed during the Second Battle of Manassas and is one of the historical stopping points in the park.
The visitor’s center offers guided tours of the park and includes a museum that displays historical artifacts. The schedule for the guided tours is available on the park’s website. If you happen to miss the guided tours, there is a 45-minute film in the visitor’s center that provides information about the park. While you are at the visitor’s center, be sure to grab a map of the park to ensure that you see all the places you want to see!
In addition to the guided tours, there are four walking trails and one driving trail that takes visitors to different statues, cemeteries, and buildings in the park. Look out for the plaques that have information regarding each site! Depending on how much time you want to spend here, it’s recommended to take a day or two to explore.
Check this off of your bucket list and be sure to bring your walking shoes and lots of water!
