First Landing State Park
Welcome to one of the original six as well as the most visited State Park in the State of Virginia, First Landing State Park located on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia Beach.
Park History: The park's name says it all. This is the location where the founders of Jamestown, the members of the Virginia Company first landed. In 1933 the State of Virginia purchased 2,000 acres from the Cape Henry Syndicate for $157K. In 1933, the Civilian Conservation Corps, with the help of mostly African American workers, built the developed sections of the park and was dedicated as a State Park on June 15, 1936. In 1965 the park was included in the National Register of Natural Landmarks due to the fact that various species of plants both temperate and subtropical grow in the park. In 1977 the parks trail system was designated as part of the National Recreational Trail system by the US Department of Interior and in 1997 the name was changed from Seashore State Park to First Landing State Park.
Today the park boats over 19 miles of trails, 20 cabins, and several campsites with both electricity and water. Come on out and have fun.
