Welcome to Molly Stark State Park located in the beautiful green mountains near Wilmington, Vermont.
Park History: This park is named for Molly Stark, who was the wife of General John Stark who fought for the Continental Army in the Revolutionary War. The Starks were from New Hampshire and Mr. Stark himself was a road builder who joined the cause for the nation's independence. Before the Battle of Bennington in 1777 Stark proclaimed "Now, my men, yonder are the Hessians! Tonight, the American flag flies over the yonder hill or Molly Stark sleeps a widow." Mrs. Stark herself raised her 11 children and taught them all to read and write. Like her husband she too was an advocate for independence and helped recruit men to fight for the Continental Army.
In the 19th century the land that is today's Molly Stark State Park was cleared for agricultural use but in the 1930's members of the Civilian Conservation Corps helped to reforest the land and build the park's amenities. On July 2, 1960 Molly Stark State Park first opened.
This park protects the habitat of white-tailed deer, black bears, foxes, peregrine falcons, coyotes, raccoons, rabbits, and many other animals that live in the green mountains. For the human visitor there are over 30 campsites and hiking trails. Come out and explore! Molly Stark State Park was RecPlanet Park of the day on February 25, 2014.
