Welcome to Battle Ground Lake State Park nestled in the forested foothills of the Cascade range in Clark County, Washington.
Park History: The region in and around Battle Ground State Park was named for a battle that was expected but never occurred in 1855 between the Klickitat tribe and soldiers of the U.S. Army. The commander of the post, Captain Strong, allowed for some of the Klickitat to leave on the condition that they would return after burying their chief who was accidentally killed. Most people thought that they would not keep their promise and that a fighting would take place. However, the natives kept their word and returned peacefully. Nevertheless, the place still bears the name Battle Ground. The park's lake is of volcanic origin and is considered by many to be a miniature version of Oregon's famous Crater Lake National Park.
