Welcome to James Island Marine State Park located on the Rosario Strait on the Washington coast. Much of the park is publicy inaccessible due to being a dense forest preserve. The park and island are named for Reuben James who helped save the life of Stephen Decatur for whom there are a few cities around the nation named. In 1875 the Federal Government made plans to construct a lighthouse on the island but it was never built. Nearly a century later the land was transferred to the State of Washington and James Island Marine State Park was established.
