Welcome to Priest Point Park.
Park History: The land that is now Priest Point park had it's first white visitors in 1848 when Missionaries came to visit the local Native American tribes. They claimed the site as St. Joseph's of New Market and made Father Pascal Ricard their leader. The missionaries cleared the land and built a chapel and a school for the Native American children. Some of the neighboring tribes included the Squaxin, Puyallup, Snoqualmie, and Nisqually tribes. The mission was closed in 1860. In 1905 the land finally became a city park due to the efforts of P.M. Troy, Elias Payne, and T.J. Kegley. Numerous volunteers helped to landscape the park and numerous donations were made over the years.
Wildlife: Priest Point Park helps protect the home of numerous wild animals including foxes, deer, flying squirrels, brown bats, seals, moles, screech owls, ospreys, and bald eagles Please treat their home with respect.
