Welcome to Seattle's Alki Beach Park, a place of historic significance. It was here in 1851 that the first white settlers arrived in the region and met the great Chief Seattle, who not only greeted them, but helped them construct their cabin. By the early 20th century, an electric streetcar helped bring local residents and visitors to this popular beach park. In 1907, Chas Looff built a small amusement park here modeled after New York's Coney Island and named it Luna Park. The park featured a carousel, heated saltwater pools, a rolle coaster, and other fun features. Sadly Luna park was destroyed by a fire in 1931 and about a decade and a half later the City of Seattle purchased the land and made it part of this park. In 1910, the park's beach became the first municipal saltwater beach on the United States Pacific Coast. A small replica of the State of Liberty was given to the park in 1952 and today serves as a local memorial for the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. This large park offers many an opportunity for residents and visitors of Seattle. Come out and have fun.
