Welcome to Wisconsin's beautiful Amnicon Falls State Park located near South Range.
Park History: This park has a human history that dates back nearly 10,000 years when men hunted mastadons in this area during the ice age. After the ice age ended many copper culture Native Americans lived in this region and utilized it's copper resources to make weapons and tools.
When the first Europeans arrived in the region the Chippewa were the dominant tribe in the region. In the 19th century the railroads were built and many companies harvested the lands timber and mineral resources. Amnicon Falls State Park began it's days as a park in 1932 when Douglas County purchased the first tracts of land that eventually became known as Bardon Park, named after the former landowners. In the 1960's Douglas County donated the land to the State of Wisconsin and the State made additional purchases in the 1970's.
