Welcome to Costa Rica's beautiful Arenal Volcano National Park. This protected wilderness was first established in 1991 and is home to lush tropical forests and an active volcano. As the founder of RecPlanet I can tell you about the time I visited in July 2003. We ventured to one of the hot springs resorts located on the volcano slopes and rangers told us that if we hiked too far up the mountain the acidic soil would start to eat away at our shoes. Some of the resident wildlife include deer, jaguars, and parrot snakes. Come out and explore.
