Welcome to Death Valley National Park, the lowest place in the western hemisphere and one of the hottest and driest places on the planet. The lowest point in the valley is Badwater Basin at 282 feet below sea level (which is the lowest natural point in the western hemisphere) and the towering snow-capped peaks of the Panamint Mountains rise up above the valley. Some of the scenes set on the planet Tatooine in the Star Wars movies were filmed here in Death Valley.

Wildlife: Death Valley National Park is home to numerous wild critters including mountain lions, deer, bobcats, coyotes, and over 300 bird species. Please treat their home with respect.

For the lover of the outdoors this park boasts miles of trails, scenic vistas, and so much more. Come on out and explore!

This was RecPlanet place of the day on September 27, 2015.
