Welcome to Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield! The word Kennesaw comes from the Cherokee term "Gah-nee-sah" which translates to burial ground or cemetery. This is ironic considering this is a place where a battle of the Civil War occurred. Some of the heaviest fighting of the Atlanta Campaign occurred here in the summer of 1864. From June 19-July 2 over 5,350 troops lost their lives.

Wildlife: Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield helps protect the home of numerous wild critters including deer, raccoons, squirrels, and rabbits. Please treat their home with respect.

For the lover of the outdoors this park boasts over 18 miles of trails, a mountain to climb, and so much more. Come on out explore and learn some history.
