Welcome to Chicago's Humbert Park.

Park History: This land was first purchased by the City of Chicago in 1916 with plans to build a police station on the site. The police station did not work out and the land was transferred over to the Bureau of Parks and Recreation and ultimately to the Chicago Park District. This urban playground was officially named Lowe Playlot Park for many years but even before it was officially changed to Humbert Park, it was called Humbert Park by many local residents who wished to honor World War 2 veteran James Humbert. Humbert was a Seaman First Class in the U.S. Navy and was killed in combat on January 10th 1945 during a battle in the Phillipines. Thus it is important that the visitor remember the man after whom this park is named and all that he did for the United States.
