Welcome to Chicago's Sherwood Park. This park has it's roots back in 1914 when the Chicago Special Park Commission purchased land across the street from Sherwood School for use as an athletic field in the spring, autumn, and fall seasons and an ice skating rink in the winter. From the mid 1920's up until the mid 1930's the city purchased additional tracts of land that more than tripled the park's acreage thereby resulting in a larger park with greater amenities. Both the park and the school were named after Jesse Sherwood, a U.S. Civil War Navy Veteran who moved to the Chicago area in 1870. Sherman helped run local stock yards and eventually served on the City's Board of Education. Today this urban park has much to offer to Chicago's residents and visitors. Come on out and have fun.
