Welcome to the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest, a place that meets the many needs of many people by offering it's natural resources as well as it's countless recreational opportunities.

About the Forest. The Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest was established in 1925 in order to protect the headwaters of the Manitowish, Wisconsin, and Flambeau Rivers. Some of the forests unique features include the 4,100 acre Powell Marsh (1,800 acres of which are wilderness area) and the Willow Flowage Scenic waters area. Some of the forests wildlife include animals such as otters, deer, beavers, snapping turtles, and various species of birds. Come on out and explore.

Some of the State Natural Areas included in this forest include Lost Canoe, Moose Lake, and many others.
