Welcome to Russian Jack Springs Park in Anchorage, Alaska. This park is named for a Russian immigration who arrived in the region in 1915 named Jacob Marunenko who had the nickname "Russian Jack." In 1943 the United States Government used eminent domain to purchase this land for the Army during World War II. When the war ended the City of Anchorage purchased the land and operated it as a working prison farm until Alaska became a state in 1959. Many facilities have been added since the late 1960's. Many people come sledding here on snowy winter days.
