Russell Cave National Monument
Welcome to Russell Cave National Monument located in the northwest corner of Alabama near the Tennessee and Georgia state lines.
Park History: Russell Cave National Monument is rich in human history. Evidence tells us that human settlement of the cave dates back over 10,000 years. People came to this cave for many reasons including the steady temperature of 58 degrees year round and the rocks that helped them to build tools and weapons. The cave is the site of the most complete record of prehistoric cultures in the southeastern United States.
For the lover of the outdoors Russell Cave National Monument boasts a 1.2 mile hiking trail and a large picnic area. As the founder of RecPlanet I first visited this place on October 23, 1995 with my 8th grade class. Come on out and explore!
